I’ve been working on a business deal for about a week and today a very valuable lesson was shown to me – one I’ve come across before. I’m pretty sure that I’ve learned my life lesson with this one however. I think this life lesson was for me to give instead of receive this time.
The lesson is this: not making a choice IS A CHOICE!! What’s more, don’t you dare let someone else (typically a complete stranger) make the choice for you! It’s far better to choose and make an ‘error’ then to allow things to just happen to you (and your business and clients). Why would you give your power away? If you’re not sure, ask for 24 hours to “sleep” on it. Ask for signs, pull some cards – but going moving and aligning with your purpose and your passion. Universe will reward you.
Another example of how you’re undermining your options: Sometimes you’re presented with an opportunity that could turn into one of the greatest choices EVER but you have to step up and make a choice! I have had several clients who were unable to afford the full price of fitness memberships. I’ve always opened the door to those with the right energy and fitness passions to barter with me. I have yet to have one client take me up on the offer. One is now in the process of getting her personal training certification (3 yrs after our conversation) and the other one isn’t willing to ask for what she needs in order to complete the deal. What if this is the most amazing opportunity your being presented with (and it might not be which is why I never give them the answer or dictate how it might ‘look’)? So if someone says to you “what would work for you?” they’re asking if you’re ready to step up and into your choice. They usually already know that you’re amazing and might have an idea of what you’d be really good at and how you could help out. But you have to CHOOSE.
I used to ask why I could never caught a break, why can’t things just go my way, etc. Sound familiar? But if you look back, how many conversations could have been your open door? How many potential opportunities have passed you by?
Here’s how you capitalize on opportunities:
- Get very, very clear about your dreams, goals, needs, and deal breakers. And then everything needs to align with those.
- Don’t be afraid to say “No thank you”.
- Stay curious and don’t be afraid to ask questions. You just never know what’s just around the corner.
