Surrender is often considered as giving up or giving in, admitting defeat and quitting. But when it comes to healing and personal growth should that really be what surrender is about? Giving up doesn’t facilitate healing and growth, instead it keeps us stuck.
Healing anything from our past can be an audacious task – sometimes it may even feel like we’re not making any progress. So we give up – surrender. It fills us with feelings of failure and/or disappointment in ourselves. For many, surrender only comes when they run out of ideas or answers.
For me, surrender has become a comfortable, peaceful state of being. Like sitting on a comfy couch wrapped in a warm blanket.
Surrender is such an important part of healing – and not because you give up but because it moves you into acceptance.
It’s about accepting what is and accepting all of it with unconditional love. You don’t fight your emotions/feelings, you’re no longer in the depths of depression, sadness or anger (those don’t completely go away btw) but allow them to surface and teach us about our pain. Being in the surrender energy allows us to stay present in the healing process and actually feel – sometimes for the first time in our lives.
Surrender is about finding peace & presences. And from that space comes growth and healing.
